Cold Snap In Galilee

Jesus may have walked on ice, study says.

Jesus may indeed have walked on water - or, at least, a sheet of ice, according to new research.

A team of scientists at Florida State University argue Jesus may have walked on a rare patch of ice in the freshwater Sea of Galilee.

The scientists concluded that a rare combination of water conditions and a cold snap could have caused "springs ice" to form on the sea's surface.

"It is proposed that the unusual local freezing process might have provided an origin to the story that Christ walked on water," the researchers write in the Journal of Paleolimnology, released yesterday.

"This is only a probability, so we don't know for sure that it happened."
With all of the things that scientists could be researching and "discovering" it is interesting to me that they are still attempting to disprove the power of God.

Last night I had a late night chat on MSN with a Muslim friend. He, too, seems determined to prove that the Bible is not legitimate, that God does not have "partners" [i.e., Jesus and the Holy Spirit] and that Jesus is only a slave to God, not a Son.

Am I, as a Christian, commissioned to prove that Jesus is real? Or that the Bible is Truth? Gosh - I HOPE not! That would be exhausting!

The Bible DOES say that we should go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. [Mark 16:15] Why? Because faith comes from listening to this message of good news. [Romans 10:17]

But that DOESN'T mean we have to study theology for 4 years in a Bible College.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. [1 Peter 3:15]

Or simply put:
Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you're living the way you are! [Message Version]
Tell people your story - how Jesus changed your life.

But be careful out there. You MAY experience a cold snap!

Hi, I found my way over here from Jon's blog.

"Cold snap in Galilee" reminded me of something that was on our news recently. Apparently they have found one copy of an anicent manuscript called - the gospel of Judas. They said it was authentic! and that it could change Christianity!

They seemed to have overlooked the fact that the authenticity of a historic manuscript is judged by the number of copies they find. In the case of other historic writngs scholars get excited if they find four but in this case they have only found ONE. Besides which since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls there are hundreds of ancient copies of New Testament books.

But the thing I find curious, like you, is their eagerness to disprove the power of God, or in this case the Bible.

Susan: thanks for stopping by! I just saw a news spot RE: the so-called "book of Judas" manuscript last night. They say it "proves" that Judas was SET UP by Jesus RE: the betrayal! Oh my... what lengths these people will go to...

Perhaps it is fear. Maybe they're afraid that the Bible IS what it declares, and that Jesus IS the Son of God - and for them to accept that (much like the Pharisees) would be to reject the very essence of who they claim to be, thus damaging their reputation and, not to mention, their pride.

[Adding you to my blog favs!]

I just received this article from a friend RE: the Judas Gospel - check it out!

Yes, it is an interesting article and it makes sense that the gospel of Judas is just a Gnostic text.
