We buy. We collect. We store.
Then things get dusty and sit in our closets.
For years.
I've heard it said that if you have something in your house that you haven't used in over a year you should get rid of it. So I did. The fair winter weather we're experiencing in the Great White North got me into the spring cleaning spirit a bit early. I packed up four boxes and three plastic bags full.
Where did all this junk come from? And why do I still have MORE of it to get rid of?
[Sigh]
Just 4 1/2 short years ago I got rid of everything I owned. With the exception of some clothes and personal memorabilia (pictures, etc.), I sold or gave away every single thing I had. Everything. Why? God told me to.
And this week I took stuff that I didn't need to the local Sally Ann.
They have shows on TV now that help people organize their junk. How ironic. What is it about us North Americans that make us love stuff? What is it that makes us buy, collect and store things we don't need?

Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be..
